Mark Dimunation to speak at NLM

NATIONAL LIBRARY OF MEDICINE, History of Medicine Division Seminar,

Lister Hill Center Auditorium, Bldg 38A, NLM; Bethesda, MD
(Please note change of venue)

"Forged in Fire: Reconstructing Thomas Jefferson's Library."

Mark Dimunation, Chief, Rare Book and Special Collections Division,
Library of Congress

The nucleus of the Library of Congress was forged in fire. In 1815
Congress purchased Thomas Jefferson's personal library-then the largest
private book collection available in North America-to replace the
congressional library destroyed when the British burned the U.S.Capitol
the previous year. When Mr. Jefferson's books arrived in Washington,
D.C. by horse-drawn wagons, the Library of Congress found its center and
its impetus. Reconstructing this landmark collection provides fresh
insights into the mind of Thomas Jefferson and the world from which he
drew his revolutionary ideas.

All are Welcome
