Book History Colloquium at Columbia University Library



(please excuse cross postings....)

List members in the New York City area may be interested to know about a new
colloquium that will take place in the Columbia University Library.  The
colloquium will provide a platform for the scholarly discussion of book
history, print culture, the book arts, and bibliographical research.  

The first two talks are scheduled for this Spring (see below) and more will
follow in the 2008-09 academic year.  This Spring we have:

Will Slauter, Mellon Teaching Fellow, Columbia University History Dept. 
?Recycling the News in the Eighteenth-Century Blogosphere?, a talk on
international news before the telegraph, a story of newspapers trading
paragraphs with each other, recycling, translating and rewriting the news.

Nicholas Dames, Theodore Kahan Professor in the Humanities, Columbia University 
?The Chapter; or, Fragmented Life? will discuss the chapter as both a
bibliographical device and the social & intellectual influences associated
with The Chapter.
