• Good news for folks in the tropics: a dehumidifying heat-pipe that adds to the effectiveness of the air conditioning equipment is available from Dinh Company, P0 Box 999, Alachua, FL 32615 (904/462-3464). It is not only very effective at bringing RH down without having to turn up the air conditioner, but it is cheap to buy and it saves so much electricity that cost is recovered in less than a year. It has been on the market for two years, as a spinoff of NASA research. The Newsletter Editor has called a customer at St. Johns River Community College in Orange Park, Florida, where the heat pipe has been installed in one building after another, and where they now use 30% less energy than they did five years ago. A long-term study is underway. More information on this will appear later in the Newsletter.
• Thomas A. Parker is an entomologist who specializes in integrated pest management for libraries, archives and museums. He has worked for the Library of Congress and the University of Miami Library; he is the author of "Study on Integrated Pest Management for Libraries and Archives," prepared for Unesco and UNISIST (Oct. 1988); he uses freezing as an extermination measure; and he is at Pest Control Services, Inc., 14 E. Stratford Ave., Lansdowne, PA 19050 (215/284-6249).
