GBW Centennial Celebration
|
October 12-14, 2006
New York City, New York
The Guild of Book Workers celebrated its 100th Anniversary right where it all started. A handful of New York City binders gathered together in 1906 to form an organization both to promote the craft of bookbinding and to exchange information about their craft. Today, the Guild is almost 1000 members strong, and embraces all the book arts - from binding to printing to marbling to calligraphy; from the traditional to the avant-garde. And we have expanded geographically too: members are from across the United States as well as around the world We thank all who joined us in celebrating this momentous occasion.
For reviews of our Centennial Celebration, please see the December 2006 issue of the GBW Newsletter. A more detailed proceedings of the seminar "The Art of the Book in America" will be forthcoming as a future GBW Journal issue. There is also a catalog of the 100th Anniversary Exhibition (both the Retrospective and Contemporary exhibits) for sale as well as online. The Contemporary exhibit is travelling around the United States through November, 2007. The venue schedule is available online.
The Standards of Excellence Seminars will continue in Dallas, TX, in October, 2007. For more information, see the Standards of Excellence page. We hope to see you there.
