Bookbindings on Incunables
A Lecture by Scott Husby
February 28, 2008. 6 PM.
Schlesinger Library 3 James Street Cambridge, MA
Scott Husby, recently retired as Rare Books Conservator at Princeton University, will present his project on the identification of incunables that retain their original bindings. He will discuss where texts were bound, the manner in which they were bound, and how the bindings were decorated. From this information, he has drawn some conclusions about text distribution in the early days of printing. This ongoing project began at Princeton University and has since expanded to include information about the collections of the Huntington Library, Morgan Library, and the Grolier Club, among others. Please join us for what is sure to be an interesting talk about these beautiful books.
