Guild of Book Workers Traveling Exhibition 2009-2011

Time has long captured the imagination of artists, writers, scientists, philosophers, and theologians. Guild of Book Workers members are invited to interpret "marking time" as broadly or narrowly as they wish. Possibilities might include but are not limited to: a specific incident in or period of history, the future, science fiction, time as a scientific or spiritual concept, the measurement of time, current events or the role of time in one's own life.

Intent to Enter Form:
The online Intent to Enter form will be accessible from the Guild of Book Workers website June 1-July 31, 2008.

Entry Details:
Jurying will be by digital image. The online submission form will be available beginning January 1, 2009 with a deadline of March 1, 2009. Accepted work will be due May 1, 2009. Jurors will be North Bennet Street School bookbinding instructor Jeff Altepeter; paper sculptor, book and installation artist, and teacher Melissa Jay Craig; and past Guild of Book Workers exhibits chair, binder, and Bonefolder publisher Peter Verheyen.

There is a $2000 limit on insurance value for work included in Marking Time. There is also a size limit on the work. Books may not be larger than 22 inches square and 12 inches deep, including protective enclosure. Flat or 2-D work may not be larger than 24 inches square, including frame and protective enclosure. Submitted works must have been created since 2006 and may not have been previously shown in a Guild exhibition (Chapter exhibitions excepted). All entrants must be members in good standing of the Guild of Book Workers at the time of submission and for the entire run of the exhibition.

Exhibition Sites:
The show will open at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts in Minneapolis May 15, 2009, concurrent with the Fellowship of American Bibliophilic Societies tour and symposium. The show then travels to the San Francisco Public Library, concurrent with the Guild of Book Workers 2009 Standards Seminar; University of Washington Seattle; University of Utah Marriott Library; Denver Public Library; Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County; Lafayette College in Easton, PA; Dartmouth College; and closes at Emory University in Atlanta in March 2011.
