Claudia Cohen was born in 1953 and graduated from Bennington College. She served apprenticeships in 1971–2 in letterpress printing at the Gehenna Press, in 1977 in binding at the Conservation Studio of Yale University under Jane Greenfield, and in 1978–82 in the bindery of Gray Parrot. In 1983 she studied with Hugo Peller at the Centro del Bel Libro, Ascona, Switzerland, returning later that year to Easthampton to establish her own bindery. In 2004 the bindery and binder moved to Seattle, WA where she now specializes in fine bindings, limited editions of books and boxes, as well as paste papers.
